Standard Character Builder

We find that many people have a hard time digesting the massive amount of content, so aid we have provided below an outline of the major events of the world as they affect character creation and mechanics in our world.

Summary of Events for Soulforge Adventures

  1. The Last Sun (The Eternal Night)
    • No Sunlight: Since The Last Sun, the sun has not risen. The world is locked in an eternal night, and the effects of sunlight no longer apply.
      • Consequences:
        • Spells like Daylight and abilities that shed sunlight have their effects reduced.
        • Certain classes, magical items and abilities that require sunlight to function or activate (such as certain types of solar magic) have been removed and are not available currently.
    • Light Sources: Only artificial light (torches, magical lights, etc.) can illuminate the world. Areas that rely on magical light sources (e.g., Light, Continual Flame) become essential for survival.
  2. The End of the Gods (No Deities)
    • No Divine Intervention: Since The Last Sun, the gods are absent, and their divine influence no longer reaches the world.
      • Consequences:
        • Clerics, Paladins, and other divine spellcasters retain their powers, but their power is granted from sources other than a deity (such as nature, ancestral spirits, or self-empowerment).
    • Loss of Faith: Devotion to deities falters, and many people turn to other sources of faith, such as the Lunar Cult or ancestral worship.
      • New Sources of Power: Factions like the Lunar Cult rise to prominence, offering alternate forms of spiritual and divine magic in the absence of the gods.
  3. Undead and Shadow Entities
    • Increased Undead Activity: The death of Quiman and the rise of Ezreal El led to the corruption of the natural cycle of life and death. Undead creatures, particularly ghosts and shadowy beings, become far more prevalent in the world.
      • Consequences:
        • Undead Plague: The undead are stronger and more numerous, roaming the land freely.
        • Spectral Entities: Ghosts, wraiths, shadows, and similar creatures gain dominion over parts of the world, corrupting the living and draining life energy.
        • Mechanics: Necromancy is more prevalent, and undead creatures are harder to turn or banish. New, stronger types of undead may emerge from the shadows, requiring new types of spells and tactics to deal with.
  4. Environmental and Terrain Changes
    • Unnatural Darkness: The eternal night causes certain regions to become shrouded in an unnatural darkness, even beyond the effects of natural light sources.
      • Consequences:
        • Survival Mechanic: The lack of sunlight alters ecosystems. Plants may become stunted or mutated, animals may adapt to the perpetual night, and food sources are harder to find.
  5. New Factions and Organizations
    • Lunar Cult: In the absence of the sun, new factions have risen, particularly the Lunar Cult, which worships the moon and claims to offer protection and guidance in this new age.
      • Mechanics: Followers of the Lunar Cult may gain powers tied to the moon, such as increased abilities during certain phases of the moon, moon-based magic, or protection from certain undead or dark forces.
    • Resistance Groups: Various groups, such as those in Newforge and Dragonspear Castle, organize to resist the growing power of the undead and the darkness.
      • Mechanics: These groups may offer shelter, training, and quests to adventurers who oppose the dark forces. They may also reward those who aid in their efforts with rare resources or artifacts.
  6. The Collapse of Civilization
    • Newforge: The survivors, including refugees from Haven, now live in Newforge, a new settlement that rose from the remnants of Dragonspear Castle.
      • Mechanics: Newforge acts as a base for adventurers, with quests revolving around rebuilding civilization in the face of unending darkness. This settlement becomes an important hub of civilization and hope, where surviving factions may come together to combat the rising evil.

Creating a Character

Your first step in playing an adventure at Soulforge Adventure is to imagine and create a character of your own. Your character is a combination of game statistics, roleplaying hooks, and your imagination.

Launch the Charactermancer

Click the “Launch Charactermancer on Roll20” button above to start the process.

Begin Creation

Select “Use the Charactermancer” option from the pop-up:

(if you accidently click the wrong button or don’t get this pop-up, you can close the window and relaunch using the “Launch Charactermancer on Roll20” button above.)

Follow Along

The rest of this guide will follow the same section prompts along the top of the Charactermancer, simply click the appropriate section as you work your way through building your character!
Choose a race in the next step. Your choice of race shapes many fundamental aspects of your character. It reflects the heritage and unique essence that define your place in the world of Soulforge Adventures, influencing your abilities, traits, and the way your character engages with the world throughout their journey.

Each race carries the weight of its history and culture, providing inspiration for roleplaying and storytelling. Descriptions include details about their societies, appearance, personality, and the roles they play in the world. These elements serve as a guide, but adventurers in Soulforge Adventures often break the mold, forging their own paths.

Deviation from the norms of your race can hold deep significance, reflecting the unique trials and choices that have shaped your character. Consider why your character stands apart and how their differences connect to the larger narrative of their soul’s journey and the ever-turning forge of fate.

Congratulations, you have created your Character Sheet!

Odds & Ends

We need to tie up some loose ends from creation before we are finished with the sheet.

Alignment

Soulforge Adventures utilizes an alternative alignment system. You will need to select a Philosophy and an Attitude and enter those into your character sheet.

Syntax: Philosophy (Attitude)

Incarnum

Most all characters have Incarnum. You will need to calculate your Incarnum, and input it in the corresponding resource spot on your sheet. Note that you will change “OTHER RESOURCE” to ‘Incarnum’ and then enter the appropriate amount.

Incarnum = [(5+ Wisdom modifier) x character level] + spell slots

Age

Based on the age you picked, consult the Age Table to determine what stage of life you are in. For every Stage above Adolescence, you will roll 2d4 (1 Quirk and 1 Boon). You can roll these in discord by entering the following command in your Creation Ticket channel.

Syntax: /roll limit 4 amount 1

The result of your first roll will be your age Quirk. Look it up on the Quirk table and update your Sheet accordingly.

The result of your second roll will be your Boon. Look it up on the Boon table and update your Sheet accordingly.

Repeat this process for each life stage your character is in, based on their age.
For example a 33 year old Alpern would perform this one, since they are an Adult. However a 55 year old Alpern would perform this twice; once as an Adult and once for being Elderly, denoting all Quirks and Boons on their Sheet.
To denote this on your sheet, first add this information in the ‘Features & Traits’ section like so:

Next, alter the appropriate ability score, proficiency or speed in the cooresponding area of your sheet. To edit ability scores, click the ⚙️ at the upper right of your sheet:

Then adjust the appropriate ability score by the amount granted by the Quirk or Boon:

Inner Soul

Once you have selected an Inner Soul, enter it into your sheet in the ‘Features & Traits’ section.

NOTE: Each Inner Soul grants an increase to the MAXIMUM of an ability score, but does not actually increase your ability score. Do not increase your ability score based on your Inner soul.

In addition, if your Inner Soul grants you spells, proficiencies, or skills, you will need to add these in the appropriate section of your sheet.

Weapon & Other Proficiencies

Add in any weapon or other proficiencies granted by your race, class, or other features or traits now that were not captured in earlier steps. You may enter them on one line, separated by commas.

On Person Container

This inventory container will be used to contain all items you have on your person at any given time. This should mirror your Roll20 sheet inventory at all times (we will set that up soon).

Newforge Container

This inventory container represents all items that are stored in Newforge. They are considered to be stored wherever you reside (be that a dark alley, or a luxurious room at an Inn). These items are safe from theft but are otherwise not accessible during an in-game session.
  1. IMPORTANT: Before you can utilize this container, you will need to have something to “store” these items in. This requires you to purchase a Chest or some other container from a shop.
  2. If you cannot afford a chest currently, that is fine. Wait until you can, but you cannot store anything in this container until you have a Chest or other appropriate container to store things in.

Arrange Inventory Items

In the following example, you will see that Chadwick has purchased some Hide Armor and a Chest. He needs to arrange those items in the proper containers.
  1. Select the the items (you may select multiple items at the same time) you wish to move to your On Person container by checking the box that appears when you mouse over the quantity of the item.

  3. Select the “On Person” container form the Container dropdown and click the “Move Items” button.
  4. Your item is not moved to your On Person container.
  5. Repeat this process for all items, assigning them to the proper container. An example of a finished inventory:

Roll20 Inventory

  1. Launch the Character Creation server on Roll20.
  2. Find your Character in Journal once Roll20 launches and open your Character Sheet.
  3. You need to add any items that are in your On Person container to your Roll20 sheet now.
  4. For each item you can add it to the Equipment.
    1. Go to the Compendium.
    2. Type in the name of the item you wish to add.
    3. Drag & Drop the item from the Compendium to your Sheet.
    4. Repeat this process for all items considered to be On Person.
    5. If an item cannot be found in the Compendium, you can manually add it by clicking the “+” in the Equipment section and filling out the appropriate information:
  5. Once you have added all your items to your inventory you are done!
