Courtier

From notable socialites to distant noble family members and trusted servants, Courtiers represent the members of the aristocracy who are employed or invited by a ruler to make up their court. They live in close proximity to the ruling class, assisting them and maneuvering through political intrigue.

  • Skill Proficiency: Deception.
  • Additional Equipment: A medallion or pin displaying the house of your patron (signet ring), court clothing (fine clothing).

Ability: Political Maneuvering

Upon spending an hour speaking to various people at court and succeeding on a medium-DC Charisma (Deception) check, you can conjure and spread a rumor or piece of gossip within a court or political structure.

Ranks

Rank 1 – Chamber Keeper

You have secured a title as a minor Courtier attending to the needs of the court through menial duties or hosting foreign visitors. As a Chamber Keeper, you are the unnoticed eyes of the court, making you a valuable informant for court plots.

Holdings:

  • A room or lodging provided by your patron within their estate.
    • A “container” in Chronica that holds up to 1,000lbs.
  • A scandalous secret relating to a member of your court allowing you to perform /pc-profession to advance your career.

Progression: Obtain a minor title from your patron that reflects your station.

  • Spend a total of 1,200 hours advising in court.

Rank 2 – Court Official

Proving yourself valuable, you have been promoted to an official, granting you a minor title and associated responsibilities.

Holdings:

  • Authority and resources associated with your minor title.
  • Up to half a dozen servant hirelings to assist in your daily responsibilities.
    • Grants a +1 bonus to your Charisma proficiency bonus when performing your profession.

Progression: To be granted a greater court title by your patron that reflects your station.

  • Spend a total of 2,400 hours advising in court.

Rank 3 – Court Patrician

With a greater court title, you have become an essential and respected member of the court, holding positions of considerable influence.

Holdings:

  • A greater court title and privileges.
  • A team of servants and lesser Courtiers sworn to you.
    • Grants a +1 bonus to your Charisma proficiency bonus when performing your profession. Stacks with prior rank (+2 total).
  • A private suite within your patron’s estate.
    • Your room now can hold up to 2,000lbs of gear.
  • Informants and spies throughout the court.

Progression: Achieve complete control of your Court and attain an honorable title.

  • Spend a total of 4,800 hours advising in court.

Rank 4 – Royal Chamberlain

You have become the most influential member at court, attaining an honorable title of considerable power. Your connections and alliances make you the unofficial leader at court.

Holdings:

  • Complete control of the court’s resources.
  • Incriminating information relating to each member at court.
  • Informants and spies across the region.
    • Your political maneuvering is always done with advantage.

This progression represents your rise in the court hierarchy, culminating in ultimate influence and power within the court.

Profession Change

To change from your current profession to this profession you must meet the following pre-requisites:

  • 1 Upper Class Contact
  • You must successfully Politically Maneuver your way into employment vs a Hard DC.

You cannot change professions again, until you have reached at least Rank 2 of this profession.
