Sailor

Free from the grueling class structures of the mainland, Sailors learn not to fear the laws of society, only the harsh temper of a storm and the stern discipline of a Boatswain. They find talking to other seafarers second-nature and are often able to secure passage for themselves and their companions in exchange for their skills.

  • Skill Proficiency: Perception.
  • Additional Equipment: Sturdy clothes (fine clothing), a sack, dice, a liquor tankard.

Ability: Sea Passage

Upon spending an hour in a port and succeeding on a medium-DC Wisdom (Perception) check, you can find a ship that you believe will provide free passage to a location of your choice, provided any ships are traveling to that location.

Ranks

Rank 1 – Deck Hand

Working on a sailing ship, you perform menial labor such as tending the lines and tarring the deck. You are at home on the waves, among your fellow sailors.

Holdings:

  • Knowledge of a potential mutiny allowing you to perform /pc-profession to advance your career.

Progression: Be promoted to Boatswain by a Captain.

  • Log 1,200 hours aboard a ship.

Rank 2 – Boatswain

Chosen by a Captain, you are responsible for the organization and well-being of the crew, as well as ensuring their loyalty. You have become a capable seafarer, knowing the ins and outs of running a ship with precision.

Holdings:

  • Command over the deckhands on the ship when not under the orders of a higher rank.
    • Grants a +1 bonus to your Wisdom proficiency bonus when performing your profession.
  • An officer’s quarters which doubles as your cabin and living space.

Progression: Be promoted to Ship Captain or become Captain of your own ship.

  • Log 2,400 hours aboard a ship.

Rank 3 – Ship Captain

You are the undisputed master aboard your own ship, facing challenges such as potential mutinies and navigating dangerous seas.

Holdings:

  • Your own ship or command of one provided by a nation.
    • A keelboat is granted to you to be stored at the port of your choosing.
  • Command of a loyal crew that sees to the operation and maintenance of your ship.
    • Grants a +1 bonus to your Wisdom proficiency bonus when performing your profession. Stacks with prior rank (+2 total).

Progression: Be promoted to Admiral by a higher authority or obtain a fleet of your own.

  • Log 4,800 hours aboard a ship.

Rank 4 – Fleet Admiral

You command a fleet of ships, known from port to harbor across the world, and shape the future of the men sailing with you.

Holdings:

  • A fleet of ships that follow your every command.
  • Command of multiple loyal crews that see to the operation and maintenance of your fleet.
  • Free lodging on any ship you are in command of, and any port or shipyard you are docked at.

Profession Change

To change from your current profession to this profession you must meet the following pre-requisites:

  • 1 Lower Class Contact
  • You must have been on sea vessel during an adventure session.

You cannot change professions again, until you have reached at least Rank 2 of this profession.
