Ports are the hubs of trade, travel, and cultural exchange. Each has a team of workers loading and unloading goods and supplies onto and from ships. From the humble clerk checking the goods in the warehouse to the bureaucratic Lord of the Seas, everyone maintains the machinery that is the port.

Profession: Liberate Ledgers
Upon spending an hour asking around, and succeeding on a medium-DC Intelligence (Investigation) check, you know the comings and goings of ships, wagons and merchandise at the trade hub you are exploring. You can similarly discern where different types of goods are stored in any warehouse, including the contraband.
Ranks
Rank 1 – Stock Clerk
Long days of work await you checking goods and loading and unloading them from ships and in the warehouse. Many laborers don’t last very long and are often blamed for broken or missing goods. Over time you’ve learned all about the port, where the ships come from and where the barrels they load come from and what their purpose is. You’ve learned to ask the right questions, who has the real power and where to have fun.
Holdings:
- An accommodation near the port or where you work.
- Know where contraband is located and how to get there.
Progression: You are promoted to Customs Inspector by a high-ranking dock worker.
- Inspect 1,200 shipments.
Rank 2 – Custom Inspector
Your days as a manual laborer are now behind you, you are now in charge of inspecting the goods for contraband and collecting taxes, filling the ledgers of the vessels that come and go. Corruption is rife in the port, and you are now exposed to a myriad of illegal dealings and criminal activities. It is up to you whether you use your authority to enforce the law or make sure you get a cut of it.
Holdings:
- A list of other inspectors you know are taking bribes and falsifying ledgers on behalf of those who bribed them.
- A letter with a clue that reveals a drug dealing operation by an organized crime group.
- Authority over low-ranking laborers and the port guard.
- Grants a +1 bonus to your Intelligence proficiency bonus when performing your profession.
Progression: Expose a large amount of contraband or a criminal organization.
- Inspect 2,400 shipments.
Rank 3 – Harbor Master
You have an eye and are efficient in customs and have earned the rank of Port Captain. You enforce local laws and regulations, governing the flow of trade and passage within your jurisdiction. Those who wish to do business without problems, make sure to be on good terms with you, as nothing moves without your approval.
Holdings:
- Comfortable accommodation within the port city or the town where you are stationed.
- Authority over all resources, funds and personnel of the port you manage.
- The authority to grant convenience licenses, allowing the import or collection of a certain good in your local area.
- Grants a +1 bonus to your Intelligence proficiency bonus when performing your profession. Stacks with prior rank (+2 total).
Progression: You are promoted by a Monarch or State Leader.
- Inspect 4,800 shipments.
Rank 4 – Sealord
Residing in your region’s capital, you dictate the laws, taxes, and flow of maritime trade throughout the region. As the Sea Lord, you have undisputed authority over the region regarding the issues pertaining to each port.
Holdings:
- A luxury accommodation near a mercantile district of the capital where you oversee the region’s operations.
- Control over port taxes and other charges associated with trade in the region.
- A seat in every council that concerns trade or the sea in the kingdom.
- You may substitute your Professional hours for Leadership hours for the purposes of serving in a Leadership role.

Profession Change
To change from your current profession to this profession you must meet the following pre-requisites:
- 1 Upper Class Contact
- You must successfully establish a Connection vs a Hard DC.
You cannot change professions again, until you have reached at least Rank 2 of this profession.
