Judge

You are a judge: a person tasked with the duty and authority to pass judgment and deliver verdicts on disputes according to the laws of your locale. The exact nature of your role and your place in the system is shaped by the laws and governmental structure of your particular venue, but in some form or fashion, you are at least one of the local legal authorities, and it falls to you to mete out justice when crimes have been committed or when two or more parties have disputes in need of official settlement by the local government.

Ability: Judicial Insight

You have honed your ability to perceive truth and detect deception in the courtroom and beyond. Your keen insights into human behavior and motivations allow you to uncover hidden facts and make fair judgments.

Upon spending an hour observing a person or reviewing testimonies and evidence, you can make a medium-DC Wisdom (Insight) check to discern the truth behind the case.

Rank 1 – Bailiff

Appointed as a bailiff, you assist magistrates and ensure the smooth operation of the court.

Holdings:

• Free lodging within any court you serve.
  • Live a moderate lifestyle for free.
• You are appointed a judicial directive allowing you to perform judicial duties (/pc-profession) to advance your career.

Progression: Successfully manage and oversee court proceedings involving disputes or crimes.

• Render judgement on 1,200 disputes.

Rank 2 – Magistrate

As a magistrate, you adjudicate legal disputes, uphold justice, and ensure the rule of law within your jurisdiction.

Holdings:

• You have a personal clerk to assist with organizing cases and legal documents.
  • Grants a +1 bonus to your Wisdom proficiency bonus when performing your profession.
• Access to courthouse equipment, legal libraries, and confidential information pertaining to judicial proceedings.

Progression: Successfully preside over and resolve proceedings.

• Render judgement on 2,400 disputes.

Rank 3 – Judge

Promoted to solidify your authority in the judicial landscape, you secure formal cases involving influential figures and expand your network of legal allies.

Holdings:

• A team of legal aides to assist you in case preparation and research.
  • Grants a +1 bonus to your Wisdom proficiency bonus when performing your profession. Stacks with prior rank (+2 total).
• Transportation provided in the form of a carriage or similar protected devise when traveling to other jurisdictions.

Progression: Successfully adjudicate high-profile cases or uncover significant legal conspiracy.

• Render judgement on 4,800 disputes.

Rank 4 – Lord Judge

Presiding over cases that reshape the legal landscape, you hold immense influence and are sought after by monarchs for your judicial wisdom and guidance.

Holdings:

• Exclusive access to confidential legal documents and case files.
• Act as the monarch’s representative in high-profile legal matters and judicial inquiries.
• Extensive judicial authority and access to resources provided by the crown.
  • You never fail to discern the truth in a legal matter.
