Some criminals employ intimidation to get what they want. They threaten harm if their demands aren’t met, a tactic known as “protection” or extortion, favored by those who are violent and ruthless. Many Cutthroats start in established gangs, collecting fees and intimidating targets on behalf of a boss. While small gangs may target a few businesses, powerful crime lords can influence entire cities or regions.

Ability: Underground Connections

After an hour of inquiry and succeeding on a medium-DC Charisma (Intimidation) check, you can establish credibility and find a contact within a local gang, Thieves’ Guild, or underground network, who will assist you with criminal matters.

Ranks

Rank 1 – Tough

Operating in impoverished areas, you mug unsuspecting victims or extort travelers for safe passage.

Holdings:

  • A hideout for shelter and evasion from law enforcement allowing you to perform /pc-profession to advance your career.

Progression: Acquire a building as a base for your operations and recruit a group of criminals to follow your lead.

  • Extort local merchants for 1,200gp a week to your organization.

Rank 2 – Crew Leader

As the leader of your team, you receive gifts and favors from shop owners seeking to remain on your good side.

Holdings:

  • A group of thugs under your command, utilizing secret routes to evade law enforcement.
    • Grants a +1 bonus to your Charisma proficiency bonus when performing your profession.
  • A rundown establishment for operating illicit activities.
    • A “shop” in chronica that illicit goods and services can be sold out of.

Progression: Expand your group to control an entire village or district within a city and establish a collection of shop owners for regular exploitation.

  • Extort local nobles for 2,400gp a week to your organization.

Rank 3 – Gang Boss

You’re a significant figure, often clashing with rival gangs for control of territory, leading to violent confrontations.

Holdings:

  • Warehouses and fronts for laundering and storing illicit goods.
    • Your shop has an expanded inventory of goods and services.
  • A network of contacts for acquiring and selling illegal items.
    • Grants a +1 bonus to your Charisma proficiency bonus when performing your profession. Stacks with prior rank (+2 total).

Progression: Overthrow a rival crime lord or claim territory from surrounding gangs.

  • Extort local royalty for 4,800gp a week to your organization.

Rank 4 – Crime Lord

At the top of the criminal hierarchy, you control a vast territory, exerting influence over various criminal enterprises.

Holdings:

  • Expansive territory overseeing criminal activities and receiving profits in exchange for protection.
  • Your Underground Connections never fail you.

Profession Change

To change from your current profession to this profession you must meet the following pre-requisites:

  • 1 Lower Class Contact
  • You must successfully establish some Underground Connections vs a Hard DC.

You cannot change professions again, until you have reached at least Rank 2 of this profession.
